In the maritime industry, maintenance and reliability are inseparable. Vessels operate under harsh conditions, where equipment faces continuous exposure to seawater, high pressure, and corrosion risks. To maintain reliable operations, it is crucial to apply proper maintenance procedures supported by technical expertise.
Recently, our team successfully completed a PE coating on BWTS pipes project for one of our clients’ vessels—delivering 50 coated parts (total 60 meters) in just three days, with full adhesion and thickness testing.
PE Coating on BWTS Pipes
The project covered 50 BWTS pipes of varying dimensions, totaling 60 meters in length. These pipes are essential to the ballast water treatment process, a key environmental compliance component on board vessels.
The operation began at Antalya Port, where our logistics team collected the pipes directly from the vessel using our own transport. Safe handling ensured the materials arrived at our workshop without additional damage or deformation.
Surface Preparation for BWTS Pipes
Upon arrival, each pipe underwent mechanical cleaning and surface preparation. Rust, scale, and surface contaminants were completely removed using a combination of advanced cleaning tools and manual inspection.
Proper surface preparation is vital—without it, even a high-quality coating can fail prematurely. This meticulous process ensured a perfectly clean and uniform surface, ready for PE coating application.
PE Coating Application
After preparation, the pipes were pre-heated to ensure optimal bonding, then coated with multiple layers of Polyethylene (PE). PE coating forms a seamless, water-resistant layer that shields steel surfaces from corrosion, chemical exposure, and mechanical abrasion—making it ideal for BWTS pipe protection in marine environments.
Each pipe was tested for coating thickness and adhesion, confirming the integrity of the PE layer. The outcome: a smooth, durable finish that significantly extends service life and reduces future maintenance costs.
Fast Delivery and Proven Reliability
From collection to final delivery, the entire process was completed in just three days. Once coating and testing were finalized, the pipes were safely transported back to the vessel at Izmir Port.
This quick turnaround highlights our team’s efficiency and our clients’ confidence in Adamar’s ability to deliver PE coating on BWTS pipes projects without compromising quality.
